In 1929, in a small workshop in Glendale, California, Lloyd Langworthy had a better idea. Instead of installing gas appliances with rigid copper tubing, the standard of the time, he invented and patented the flexible steel gas connector. So popular was the invention that it quickly became the standard method of installation through out the U.S. The flexible connector not only saved time, installations that used to take hours now were done in a matter of minutes, but it also prevented catastrophic failure in the event of earthquakes.
